CooperType 2012: Personal project

CooperType Condensed program 2012

The personal project started on 25th June 2012. The groups spent long hours to built and confirm the style of their typefaces. First thing was to set the contrast and relation with basic serifs. Then, they worked on endings and how the endings will relate or not to basic serifs. All key letters have been created on tracing paper to avoid to mix two very different steps: conceptualisation and production. Production is an important process but should start only when key features of the typeface project are already set up. Its not easy to have to change the serif system when the full typeface is alomst completed. Thus, production is done on screen with FontLab or Robofont using the usual Bézier curves. Few days later, on 2nd July 2012, some of students already switched from paper to screen, then when the group meet the next day evening, everyboday already have large part of the lowercases created on their favorite typeface design application. Next major step will be the full set of lowercases and capitals due for Monday 9th July 2012. The group work hard everyday, congratulations to them.

The following images when available show the two steps: tracing paper drawings versus laser print tests.
